Travel Security
The world is not predictable. For many businesses, their most important assets are their employees. Companies and organizations have a duty of care to ensure that their employees are safe and secure. This can be easily addressed in their normal workplace. However, for a large percentage of professionals, the workplace is the world, not an office. The safety and security of anyone travelling for business cannot be taken for granted. It is possible to travel to very dangerous parts of the world and remain very safe. Alternately, travel to places with a very safe and secure reputation can become a nightmare for the traveller unprepared for contingencies. Everybody knows that places like Libya, Iraq, or the Horn of Africa are dangerous and require special precautions or even highly priced services from specialized contractors. But the safety and security situation can change quickly in even the most safe or mundane locations.
Business travellers can rely on luck and their own instincts, but this is not a reliable approach for most enterprises. “Hope is our Anchor” may be useful as an encouraging motto, but it is not sustainable as corporate policy. Various security companies offer a wide variety of services, some of which are very expensive and possibly even gold-plated. These vendors serve a useful service for many companies and travellers. However, not every business can afford these services, or can only use them for their highest executives. Not everyone can afford or have access to the high quality services provided by the large security firms.
